Halloween certainly doesn’t have a reputation for being the healthiest of holidays, but there are still ways to celebrate without putting your healthy efforts on hold. First and foremost, don’t look at the holiday as a reason to skip your workout. Prioritize your schedule and make sure to squeeze in some exercise before the celebrations begin.
Here are a few more tips to help you sail through Halloween a little healthier this year:
Exercise while Trick-or-Treating
Taking kids out to gather candy can be healthy for you (and them, but that’s a bit more work). Make sure to choose a route that involves lots of walking or maybe even biking. If you’re on foot, why not try some simple moves such as calf raises while the kiddos are up at the door getting their goodies?
Indulge in Moderation
We know. The term moderation really shouldn’t apply to Halloween candy, but unfortunately we haven’t found a way to make candy calories not count yet. Until this happens, we suggest choosing a few pieces of your favorite candy, enjoy them and say no thanks to the rest.
Make your own Treats
Substitute a few healthier treats for all the candy and before you know it, you might not even miss it. Check out this whole list of goodies you can make at home. Our personal favorites are the strawberry ghosts and the banana mummies.
