Post-workout snacking can become a vicious cycle. Sometimes it feels like the more you exercise, the more you want to eat. However, devouring everything in sight after exercising isn’t beneficial and can undo the hard work you put in at the gym.
Refueling your body is important, however; you just need to learn the proper way to do it. So what is it exactly that your body needs? Well, it’s best to look for a snack or meal full of protein (to repair and rebuild muscles) and carbohydrates (to replenish glycogen stores). Additionally, remember to stay hydrated before, during and after your workout.
Here are a few snack suggestions:
Protein shake with fruit
Peanut butter on whole wheat toast
String cheese and a piece of fruit
Greek yogurt with berries
Hummus and pita
