After gorging on turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce and toasting to everything we have to be thankful for, it seems as though the holiday season has officially begun. As social, work and family obligations begin to pile up, it can be tough to even think about working out. The key to helping keep all those extra indulgences in check is to move a little bit more each day.
Add a few of these tricks to your day and you’ll probably burn some extra calories and won’t have to stress about that visit to the cookie tray at your next holiday party.
Clean your house
Everyday tasks such as washing dishes, dusting and vacuuming get you up and moving while leaving your house more organized (hopefully) than when you started.
Take the stairs
Use the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator whenever possible. Bonus: less time needed on the Stairmaster at the gym.
Cook at home
Not only will preparing a meal for yourself keep you on your feet, you’ll reap the benefits of knowing exactly what’s in your dinner.
Wear a pedometer
Easily keep track of the steps you take each day and try to increase them on a weekly basis.
Take the long way
Park further away from stores while holiday shopping or walk to the bathrooms and water coolers farthest away from your desk at work.
Exercise a little at a time
Do exercises little by little throughout the day such as squeezing your abs tight while at stoplights or do calf raises while brushing your teeth.
You read that right! Burn more calories by standing and talking with others or by walking around the room at a party to talk to more people instead of just sitting on the couch.
