Halloween candy binges, brightly-colored leaves and daylight savings time pretty much sum up the first few weeks of November. While it’s perfectly healthy to admire the leaves, all that candy and early evening darkness isn’t so great for our fitness routines.
It’s hard to resist the call of a warm blanket and couch when the days grow shorter. However, we also know making it to the gym is more than half the battle when it comes to working out. Once you step foot inside, you are more than likely ready to work.
For this reason, we’ve put together a few tips to help ensure you get to the gym and get those workouts in despite all the candy and dark skies.
Consult your Calendar
Give your schedule a serious look and determine what time of day is best for you to work out. Be honest with yourself, even if that means you need to wake up a little earlier or skip out on happy hour sometimes.
Don’t Go Home
It’s easy to skip the gym if you head home (or even somewhere else) first. If you are working out in the evening, pack your gym bag ahead of time and go straight there. This eliminates many distractions you’d encounter along the way.
Visualize your Reward
Promising yourself a healthy treat after the gym is a great motivator. As you work out, think about how good your morning coffee will taste (just stay away from the high-sugar, high-fat drinks) or how nice it will be to relax with a book or magazine at night.
