Healthier Valentine’s Day Treats

It’s hard to escape Valentine’s Day without being bombarded by chocolate everything… cookies, cupcakes and candies galore! I won’t even mention the little candy hearts. My point is this, come mid-February your willpower may take a nose dive. Who could blame you? Everyone needs a treat now and then.

What you don’t need is 10 of them. Simply put, pick one or two you really enjoy and leave the rest for your valentines. Better yet, choose one of the healthier treat options listed below. They’re guaranteed to cure your sweet tooth without breaking the sugar bank.

Dark Chocolate
High-quality dark chocolate is packed with antioxidants that may boost heart health, lower blood pressure and improve your mood. A small piece (or two) has minimal sugar making it a healthy option when it comes to candy.

Homemade Treats
Choosing a treat made with real ingredients, even ones like sugar and butter, is a million times better for you than artificial ingredients. Making your own cookies or cupcakes also lets you control how much of each ingredient goes into your recipe.

Chocolate-Covered Strawberries
Bonus points if they’re dark-chocolate strawberries! Strawberries deliver powerful vitamins and antioxidants including vitamin C which can help boost your immune system. Remember, fruit is always a healthy dessert option!
