Research shows it takes 66 days on average to form a habit – meaning that fitness routine you just started will take about two months to stick. Creating a routine may not be the easiest part of your workout journey, but proper planning can help ensure your success.
Find the best time of day for you.
Some of us are morning exercisers and some of us can’t even imagine waking up before the sun comes up… and that’s okay. Be realistic with yourself as to what time of the day works best with your schedule and when you will actually work out. It doesn’t matter what time of the day it is just as long as it works for you.
Choose a variety of exercises you enjoy.
When creating your routine, make sure to find activities you enjoy doing or maybe in some cases, just dislike less. Choosing a variety of activities will help keep the risk of boredom at bay and is a great way to make sure you are benefiting in all areas of fitness such as aerobic/cardio, strength training and flexibility and stretching.
Plan a schedule ahead of time.
Sit down in advance and figure out what your plan of attack will be for the following week or even month. Having a schedule laid out ahead of time makes it easier to not only get to the gym, but to not waste any time once you are there.
